IRIS GP Payroll installation guide

This page explains how to install IRIS GP Payroll.

Alert iconImportant note: This chapter describes the steps required to install a completely new Payroll system. If your intention is to ‘install’ the IRIS GP Payroll upgrade (e.g. in April 2008) you should follow the instructions supplied with the upgrade CD.  IRIS GP Payroll is supplied on a CD. Initially a four month trial version is installed.

 

Place the CD in the drive and:

  • Click on the START button.
  • Click on RUN
  • Type D:InstallTrial <return> (if D is the letter of your CD drive, otherwise substitute the correct drive letter)
  • Follow the screen instructions until the installation is complete.

Alert iconImportant note: If IRIS GP Payroll is to be loaded onto a computer operating in a Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP network the operator should log on as an administrator before loading the CD.  For further assistance please contact your network administrator.


The four month trial version of the software can be converted to the full package by loading an unlocking disc which can be purchased from IRIS on 0844 815 5700. Existing users can convert the four month system to an unrestricted version by restoring a previous data back up disc.


IRIS GP Payroll will operate on any machine which has a Windows operating system (Windows 2000/XP/Vista). Screen design requires at least an SVGA (800 x 600) monitor. The appearance is improved by higher screen resolution (e.g. 1024 x 768 or higher).


When IRIS GP Payroll is entered for the first time the operator should enter pass in the password screen and then select the ‘Setup/Options’ button to enter the Set up screen.

Avoid loading the Payroll on the network server. It is often suggested that loading onto the server gives better backup protection. This is not the case. It is usually not possible to extract the Payroll system from the general server backup if the Payroll is to be reloaded. Every Payroll upgrade CD contains a full installation system which, together with the normal floppy, CD or memory stick backup of Payroll data, can be used to re-establish the Payroll within a few minutes.
