IRIS Bookkeeping - Frequently Asked Questions


How do I activate my IRIS Bookkeeping licence?

Click on Tools then Options (or Enter Licence if no company is currently loaded). This will display the Licence tab. Complete the fields as appropriate with the licence information provided by IRIS Software (contact 0844 815 5661)

 


How do I create a new Company within IRIS Bookkeeping?

A small wizard is available to set up a new company. This is accessed by going to File, then Create a new company. Complete all relevant fields in each of the screens. Certain fields are compulsory, but others can be left blank and then entered at a later stage.

 


How do I configure the Nominal Ledger to make it more appropriate to my company?

Nominal Ledger accounts can be amended to show different descriptions, or new nominal accounts can be added. 

 

To edit an existing code, go to Nominal and then List Nominal Accounts.  Select the option for ‘all accounts’ at the bottom of the screen. Find the account to be amended and double click on it. The description can now be amended.

 

To set up a new nominal account, go to Nominal and then Create new Nominal Account. Complete the fields as relevant with an appropriate account number, type and sub-type etc.

 


How do I create a new customer or supplier?

Go to either the Customer or Supplier menu and select the option for Create New Customer/Supplier. Complete the fields as appropriate. Certain fields are compulsory, and others are optional and can be entered at a later stage.

 


How do I create a new bank account?

Go to the Bank menu and choose the option for Create New Bank.  Complete the relevant bank and contact information in the General Information tab, and then click on the Bank Accounts tab and complete all relevant fields.

 


How do I set up stock accounts?

To create a new stock item, go to the Stock menu and select the option for Create New Stock Item.  Complete all relevant fields in the screen.  Only a code and description are compulsory, but it is advised that other fields are also completed if you intend to use the stock system as a basic stock control.

 


How do I create a backup, or restore a backup file?

To take a backup, go to the File menu and choose Backup database.  Choose a location to save the backup to and click the backup button at the bottom of the screen.

 

To restore a backup, go to the File menu and choose Restore database.  Select the relevant file from the list, or browse to the location of the file if it is not listed.  Once the file is selected, click on the restore button at the bottom of the screen.
